Pottery with Brian DeRan (Western Desert Studio)
Working with air-dry clay you will learn the basic techniques of handcrafting a vessel. Hardened by the desert sun, you will talk your work home with you.

Lindsey will teach a "no-sew, no-tools" technique of rag rug weaving, and get participants started on their very rug (or trivet for those with a short attention span). Materials will be provided and attendees can even take home enough fabric to finish their project.

Learn the principles of sustainable wildcrafting with Juniper Ridge founder, and Chief Wilderness Perfumer, Hall Newbegin. Participants will help craft a unique hydrosol using wild harvested desert plants.

Desert Solar Prints with Ashley Turner
Ashley, an LA-based photographer and creative director, forgoes her camera to show you how to make prints using found objects, the blazing desert sun, and little else. Images will be imprinted on fabric and paper, and will be unique abstract snapshots of your time at D&D.

Sashiko Stitching with Levi's
In this one hour class you will learn how to sashiko stitch your jeans for repair or personalization. Sashiko, which means little stabs, was a form of stitching started in Japan in the 1600's to repair and reinforce clothing. The technique has since become popular for personalization and self-expression.
Levi’s tailor will teach you a basic stitch to add fabric to your clothing or repair a hole. You will be gifted a kit that includes: a piece of practice fabric, needles, and thread. You will also receive a pamphlet with other stitch design instructions so you can experiment at home and give your old jeans new life. Please bring a pair of jeans or other denim to work on to get the most out of this class!
